Biography
He was born on May 21, 1974 in Antakya. He completed his secondary education at Bursa Boys' High School, one of the oldest and well-established schools in Turkey. In 1991, he ranked 49th in the ÖSS exam and started his education at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine. He completed general surgery internship at Messina University Hospital in Italy and Rijeka University Hospital in Croatia and orthopedics and traumatology internship at Vall D'hebron University Hospital in Barcelona, Spain.
In 1998, he graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine. He then went on to complete his master's degree in sports medicine at Hacettepe University in 2002, followed by his doctorate in sports sciences and technology-exercise physiology at the same university in 2007.
Between 2000-2004, he worked as the physician at the Athlete Training and Health Research Center of the General Directorate of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey. He worked as a national team physician in international organizations in many branches and contributed to many successes with these teams. For several years, he worked as the physician of the Turkish Wrestling Senior National Team and received awards for his role as the responsible physician for teams that placed 2nd, 3rd, and champions in Europe and the world. From 2018 to 2020, he served as the physician of the Turkish Women's Basketball Senior National Team. In 2006, he began working as a lecturer at the Near East University School of Physical Education and Sports.
He began working at Near East University Hospital, Department of Sports Medicine in October of 2011. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in September 2012, Associate Professor in February 2015 and finally Professor in March 2021. He has lectured for many federations in Turkey and TRNC in coaching education and development seminars.
In 2008-2018 he served as the head of NEU BESYO Coaching Education Department, and in 2011-2020 he served as the head of the Department of Sports Medicine at NEU Faculty of Medicine. At present, he is the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education, Senator of the Faculty of Physical Education and a member of the Board of Scientific Research Projects in Near East University. Dr. Ulaş Yavuz is a member of FIMS (International Federation of Sports Medicine), ECSS (European College of Sport Sciences) and ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine).
